This is a globally distributed, contagious liver disease for dogs and is transmitted through contaminated faeces, urine, nasal discharge, blood and saliva. The virus can survive in the environment for a long time and can be present in the urine of further recovered dogs for up to a year.

The symptoms range from a mild fever to the death of the animal. The first symptoms are usually fever, lethargy and not wanting to eat.
